JUNI 1984 CHORUS MANUAL
1. Overview
JUNI 1984 CHORUS is a parametric chorus effect that models the analog bucket brigade delay (BBD) circuitry found in classic 1980s synthesizers. Unlike the original hardware units which had fixed internal settings, this plug-in gives you full control over all parameters, allowing you to recreate classic sounds or design your own chorus effects.
4. LFO Section
The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) controls the modulation that creates the chorus effect.
RATE (0.2 Hz - 20 Hz)
Controls the speed of the modulation. Lower values produce slow, sweeping effects. Higher values create vibrato-like sounds.
SHAPE (0% - 100%)
Adjusts the waveform of the LFO:
- 0% = Triangle wave
- 50% = Sine-triangle hybrid
- 100% = Sine wave
Triangle waves produce a more linear sweep, while sine waves create smoother, rounder modulation.
PHASE (0° - 360°)
Sets the phase offset between the left and right stereo channels. A setting of 180° creates the widest stereo image by placing the channels in opposite phase. Lower or higher values narrow the stereo width.
5. DELAY Section
These parameters control the delay line that the LFO modulates.
MIN (0.5 ms - 10 ms)
Sets the minimum delay time. This is the shortest delay the LFO will reach during its cycle.
MAX (0.5 ms - 10 ms)
Sets the maximum delay time. This is the longest delay the LFO will reach during its cycle.
The difference between MIN and MAX determines the depth of the chorus effect. A larger range creates more pronounced pitch variation. Classic settings use approximately 1.5 ms to 5 ms.
7. Preset System
Use the PRESET display and navigation controls at the top of the interface:
- PREV / NEXT - Browse through available presets
- SAVE - Save the current settings as a new preset
- FAV - Mark presets as favorites for quick access
The LCD display shows the current preset name and provides visual feedback when adjusting parameters.
8. Factory Presets
JUNI 1984 CHORUS includes several factory presets based on classic hardware:
- Juno 60 (I) - Recreation of the original Juno-60 chorus mode I
- Juno 60 (II) - Recreation of the original Juno-60 chorus mode II
- Juno 60 (I+II) - Combined mode with both chorus circuits active
- JX-3P - Based on the Roland JX-3P chorus
- JX-03 - Based on the Roland JX-03 chorus
9. Tips for Use
- For subtle thickening, use narrow delay ranges (small difference between MIN and MAX) and moderate RATE settings
- For classic synth pad sounds, try the Juno 60 presets as a starting point
- Increase the PHASE parameter toward 180° for wider stereo spread
- Use lower SHAPE values (triangle wave) for more obvious pitch wobble, higher values (sine wave) for smoother modulation
- The chorus works well on synths, guitars, electric pianos, and can add character to reverbs and delays
